"The Bönpo tradition is certainly one of the richest spiritual traditions of Tibet. It has not yet been studied in depth and most of its literature remains unknown even to Western Bönpos. Only a handful of Bön works have so far been translated in western languages. According to its own historians, Bön is considered to refer to three different traditions: 1. Old Bön which has now practically disappeared, 2. Eternal Bön or Yungdrung Bön which is the “official” tradition, and 3. New Bön which is probably the most widespread in Tibet nowadays."
